Preparation Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the butter in a mixing bowl. Add chopped pears, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Toss gently to coat the pears.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and spices. Cut in the cold butter until resembling coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined.
- Spread the topping evenly over the pear mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle sanding sugar on top if desired.
- Bake for about 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
