Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Melt ¼ cup of unsalted butter with ¾ cup of brown sugar over medium heat until bubbly, then pour into the cake pan.
- Arrange sliced apples decoratively in a circular pattern over the caramel.
Mixing
- Combine dry ingredients: 2 cups flour, 2 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp baking soda, ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, and ¼ tsp nutmeg.
- In another bowl, cream together ½ cup butter and 1 cup sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
- Add ½ cup sour cream and ½ cup milk, then mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Spread the batter over the apple layer in the pan.
Baking
