  • 4 rolls Italian sub or hoagie rolls or French baguettes
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted substitute with olive oil for a lighter option
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder or minced shallots
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil or fresh basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust for less spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly cracked is best
  • 4 oz deli-sliced salami or prosciutto
  • 4 oz deli-sliced ham or honey smoked ham
  • 4 oz deli-sliced pepperoni or spicy turkey pepperoni
  • 4 oz deli-sliced mozzarella cheese or fresh mozzarella
  • 4 oz deli-sliced provolone cheese or aged provolone
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese or Pecorino Romano
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, sliced or fresh bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives or green olives
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers, sliced or jalapeños
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves optional

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the Italian sub rolls in half lengthwise, keeping them hinged. Place cut sides up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter. Mix in garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Brush the cut sides of the rolls with the seasoned butter mixture.
  5. Layer the fillings on the bottom halves of the rolls: salami, ham, and pepperoni.
  6. Add mozzarella cheese on top of the meats followed by provolone cheese.
  7. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese, then add roasted red peppers, sliced black olives, and banana peppers.
  8. Add fresh basil leaves before closing the sandwiches.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is golden.
  10. Cool for 1 minute, then slice into portions and serve warm.
