Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns with half of the sharp cheddar cheese.
  3. Spread the hash brown mixture evenly across the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cooked sausage, salt, pepper, and onion powder.
  5. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the hash browns in the baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining half of the sharp cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and firm in the center.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
  9. Garnish with fresh chives or a dollop of sour cream before serving.
