Ingredients

For the Tofu
  • 1 block Firm Tofu Offers the ideal texture
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch For coating
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil For frying
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Honey or Maple Syrup For a vegan option, use maple syrup
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced fresh
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium optional
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil Nutty flavor
For Garnishing
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions Chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds

Equipment

  • skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • Heavy Object (like a cast iron skillet)
  • plate

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Press Tofu: Drain the firm tofu and wrap it in a clean kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on top and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Cut Tofu: Once pressed, unwrap the tofu and slice it into uniform bite-sized cubes, aiming for 1-inch pieces.
  3. Prepare Sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  4. Coat Tofu: Spread cornstarch evenly on a large plate. Roll each tofu cube in the cornstarch to coat.
  5. Fry Tofu: Heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Fry the tofu cubes in batches for 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Drain Tofu: Transfer the fried tofu to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Simmer Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce into the same skillet and simmer for about a minute.
  8. Combine: Add the fried tofu to the skillet with the sauce and gently toss to coat.
