- Warm 1 cup of milk, sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast and a pinch of sugar, stir, and wait until frothy (5-10 minutes).
- Whisk together 1/4 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and blend.
- Gradually mix in 3.5-4 cups of flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough, roll out to 1/4 inch thickness, and cut into squares or rectangles.
- Heat 2-3 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot.
