Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in caramel chips and optional chocolate chips.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  8. Sprinkle flaky sea salt generously over each dough ball.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Centers may be soft.
  10. Cool cookies on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
