Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound lean ground beef can substitute with shrimp, chicken, or tofu
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce for savory depth
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce adds sweetness and tang
  • 1 cup shredded carrots for crunch and color
  • 0.5 cup chopped bell peppers any color for sweetness
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves preferably Thai basil
For Rolling
  • 8 pieces rice paper wrappers soak individually before use

Equipment

  • skillet
  • bowl for soaking rice paper

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef to the pan, breaking it apart. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Stir in 1 tablespoon each of soy sauce and hoisin sauce, simmering for an additional 2 minutes.
  2. Add 1 cup of shredded carrots and ½ cup of chopped bell peppers to the skillet with the beef mixture. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until vegetables are vibrant and slightly tender.
  3. Soak a rice paper wrapper in warm water for about 10 seconds, until pliable. Remove and let excess water drip off, then lay it flat.
  4. In the center of the rice paper, place a few fresh basil leaves followed by a scoop of the beef and vegetable mixture. Be careful not to overfill.
  5. Gently fold in the sides of the rice paper, then tightly roll up from the bottom. Repeat this process for all wrappers.
  6. Arrange the completed rolls on a platter and serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce.
