For the Dough

  • 1 cup Warm Milk Almond or soy milk works for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/2 cup Warm Water Ensure it's warm, not hot, to protect the yeast.
  • 2 teaspoons Instant Dry Yeast Active dry yeast can be used alternatively.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Natural substitutes include honey or agave syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Sea salt or kosher salt can replace table salt.
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Unsalted Butter or Olive Oil Olive oil is a great vegan alternative.

For Serving Suggestions

  • Teriyaki Meatballs A delightful flavor fusion that takes your meal to the next level.

Equipment

  • medium bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Non-stick pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, sugar, and instant dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add bread flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Gently punch down the dough, turn it out onto a floured surface, and divide into 6 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and let rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Roll each piece into an 18 cm round approximately 5 mm thick.
  6. Preheat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Cook each round for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and let it cook for another minute to help it puff.
  8. Brush the cooked bread with melted butter or olive oil and serve warm.

Notes

Use a heavy pan for better heat retention. Check the temperature before cooking to achieve puffiness. Don't overmix the dough and always cover during cooking to retain moisture.
